Some thoughts on the situation of the Middle East and its causes:
1) The history of the Middle East is very long and complex
2) Political power has historically been associated with military force.
3) Religions have played a preponderant role throughout history, particularly in political and military confrontations.
4) The last 1400 years are marked by conflicts and wars between religious organizations and churches, in particular, monotheistic beliefs: Christians with Muslims, Shiites with Sunnis, Muslims with Jews, among others. In conclusion, religion appears stripped of its spiritual and philosophical content and becomes an instrument of power.
5) The ethnic and cultural differences that together with the different religious beliefs have allowed to justify wars, massacres and genocides have also influenced.
6) Current wars are related to the old religious and ethnic conflicts.
7) Middle Eastern conflicts have often been fueled by outside powers (France, the United Kingdom, Russia, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Italy, etc.)
8) Generally, political power has emerged from military force, kings, caliphs, sultans, dictators and presidents came to their positions for control of arms.
9) The power is usually hereditary, forming dynasties that can last several generations.
10) This inheritance can be from parents to children, but it can also be passed on to other members of dynastic families: nephews, grandchildren, uncles, brothers, etc.
11) Power tends to be masculine. Women who exercised it in the region are very rare.
12) There have always been very minority ruling classes, who enjoy the privileges granted by power, and dominated and impoverished majorities.
13) Power is obtained and preserved by the force. It is common for enemies and adversaries to be killed, tortured to obtain information or simply to make them suffer.
14) Slavery and servitude have been common throughout the history of the Middle East. Only in the last 100 years have these provisions been repealed, although in practice their effects on society still exist.
15) Discrimination based on religion, belief, ethnicity or gender was the rule throughout history and still is.
16) Democratic processes have been virtually non-existent.
17) The few electoral processes that have taken place gave rise to frauds that are sometimes very evident.
18) Given the age of this historical and political evolution, it does not seem likely that reliable democratic systems will be established in the short term.
19) The presence of important natural resources (hydrocarbons) has exacerbated conflicts and foreign interventions.
20) In today's global world, conflicts in the Near East affect and affect all countries and regions of the world, whether economically, politically or by the influx of migrants and refugees.
21) It can be predicted that these conflicts will continue and that they will even worsen due to the unsustainability of regional societies, with high population densities, extensive unproductive arid zones and extremely marked social structures with few privileged people and a huge number of impoverished people.
