Geological Paradigms That Resist Change

The paradigm of normal science defined by Thomas S. Kuhn is the set of theories, rules, procedures and knowledge that permeate a given society at a particular moment in its history. At present it refers to the scientific "model" adopted in a generalized way in contemporary globalized society.
The subject of planetary evolution, currently restricted to that generally accepted
"Plate tectonics theory", with a constant-volume planet complemented by the hypothesis of the biological ("fossil") origin of petroleum are established paradigmatic areas that resist being modified despite the numerous data that should induce Its radical and profound revision.
In this "globalized" society, it would be assumed that the official scientific construction would work through the accumulation of scientific data that would allow "advancement" in knowledge, in particular to achieve greater detail in the concrete application of accepted scientific models.
Unfortunately, there is no method in this official paradigm (nor in any other dominant paradigm) that allows to discard "the whole model" to be able to accept other theories and to apply other rules or procedures that end up modifying it radically.
For that reason, in the field of planetary geology, it is very difficult to rethink the validity of many concepts whose validity is being denied daily by reality.
The difficulty of changing the official paradigm is that this modification also alters power relations.
At the political level, those who have "the paradigmatic power" are the same ones that control the decision-making mechanisms.
From the economic point of view they are the ones who benefit from the decisions that are made based on the postulates officially accepted
In the academic sphere, it is the people who defend their prestige and the economic security that the occupational or university positions they occupy and that would eventually be threatened by a possible paradigm change (Lovelock, 1988).
We have no doubt that sooner or later paradigmatic change will occur. When the critical mass of researchers and scientists and the support of public opinion is sufficient, as the decades pass and new data become available confirming the new vision about the history and dynamics of our planet, the structures of power will yield and the new Paradigm based on reality data will be officially accepted.
At that time, the conditions will be created to rethink the political and economic strategies that allow to develop and establish a new approach to human relations with the resources and environments of the planet.
