I recommend watching this video explaining how the catastrophic alarmism of "global warming" was built, in spite that in the 1970s the great concern was the possible global cooling.
It explains how Margaret Thatcher's political decisions influenced the arguments to neutralize the coal miners' strike and at the same time combat the growing influence of OPEC. In order to achieve this, she allocated large sums of money for projects that would allow her to prove it. In a strange alliance, some anti-globalization sectors and environmentalists found in global warming an argument for their campaigns. Since then, the elites, both economic, bureaucratic and academic, have turned to "global warming" to seek justifications for this new dogma.
